Sailing exclusively for private charters with just 2-6 guests, sailing on Starlight is like sailing on your own private yacht.
Starlight is a 34-foot O’Day sloop, one the most popular sailboats of her size in the country, and for good reason: she is comfortable, sails well and is fun to sail on!
Pack a small picnic, your favorite beverages and come out for a sail!
After boarding at our dock at Bowen’s Wharf, we’ll raise sail in Newport Harbor, and sail into Narragansett Bay.
You’ll get great views of Fort Adams, the largest coastal fortification in the country, the Pell Bridge, luxury yachts, lighthouses and coastal estates.
Sometimes we’ll sail into Mackerel Cove in Jamestown or into Brenton Cove in Newport Harbor which are both exceptionally pretty. The scenery is breathtaking and the sailing is world-class.
Sit back and relax, enjoy the wind and sun up on deck, or take the wheel and discover the thrill of sailing. Nothing beats the feel of having the boat to yourselves!
All sails come our friendly and knowledgeable captains, who are happy to show you the sights, let you steer or relax.
Starlight offers, morning, afternoon and sunset sails daily throughout the season. She’s a favorite for friends, family outings and proposals, although you don’t need a special occasion. Sometimes the best reason is no reason at all!

The longest sail in our fleet. Enough time to sail along the Ocean Drive, out to Castle Hill Lighthouse, into Mackerel Cove in Jamestown or under the Pell bridge. Plenty of time to relax, have a picnic or do some hands-on sailing!
Take a turn at the wheel and learn the basics from your captain, or sit back on the custom stern perch seats and do nothing at all. Either way works.
All private sails on Starlight depart from Bowen’s Wharf in downtown Newport. Sails run approximately two hours — check our Schedule & Rates page for departure times and pricing, and then Book Now to see availability and book your sail.
A few things worth knowing before you book:
Boarding requires climbing two to three steps up and down a sturdy ladder attached to a seawall, then stepping roughly 16 to 20 inches over the boat’s lifelines. Guests should be comfortable with that level of mobility. You can see a photo of the ladder on Starlight here.
If anyone in your group has balance or mobility concerns, we’d recommend sailing on Aquidneck instead. She’s our most stable vessel and boards from a set of stairs with a handrail.
No dogs are permitted on Starlight and for safety purposes, no children under 6 are allowed.
