Starlight is a 34-foot O’Day sloop and the most intimate way to sail Newport. Carrying just two to six guests, she’s the perfect boat for couples, small groups of friends, family outings, and special occasions. She’s been the setting for countless engagement proposals and milestone celebrations on the water.
Starlight’s comfortable cockpit, custom stern perch seats, ample deck space, and cozy cabin make her ideal for a day on Narragansett Bay. There’s a cooler for drinks and snacks, a stereo with an iPod interface, and blankets and jackets for cooler evenings. Pack a small picnic and you’re set.
Starlight sails the longest and furthest of any boat in our fleet. You’ll pass through Newport Harbor, into Narragansett Bay, and along the shoreline of Newport’s Ocean Drive. Sail past seaside estates, lighthouses, historic landmarks, and world famous yachts. Your captain can even duck into Brenton or Mackerel Cove for stunning up close views you won’t get anywhere else.
Your friendly, knowledgeable captain will share light, informative commentary throughout the sail. Take the wheel and experience the thrill of sailing firsthand, get some casual instruction, or simply sit back and enjoy the scenery.
Starlight sails are approximately two hours, the longest of any boat in our fleet. See our Schedule and Rates page for available departure times.
A few things to know before booking your sail on Starlight.
Children under 6 are not permitted on Starlight due to safety considerations. Boarding and disembarking requires climbing two to three steps up and down a sturdy ladder attached to a seawall, and stepping approximately 16 to 20 inches over the boat’s lifelines. Guests should be comfortable with this level of mobility. You can see the boarding ladder in the photo gallery below.
If you have balance or mobility concerns, we recommend sailing on Aquidneck instead. She’s our most stable vessel and is easily boarded by a set of stairs with a handrail.
For questions about bringing food and beverages, visit the Private Charters section on our FAQ page.
If Starlight is sold out, consider a private charter on Sightsailer. She’s larger and carries up to 13 guests, but we regularly run charters with just two to six. Learn more on the Sightsailer page.
There is no single way to see Newport, so we offer them all. Step aboard for a sightseeing cruise, a hands-on sailing lesson, or a celebratory special event. Browse our daily departures below and secure your spot on the water.
