Step aboard one of our three sailing vessels for a refreshing afternoon sail. We offer day sails aboard Aquidneck and Sightsailer and private charters on Starlight. Each offers a different sailing experience.

Newport’s prevailing wind direction in the summer is Southwest. This breeze is usually light early in the day, yet tends to fill in by late morning and build during the afternoon. On a breezy day, it’s known as the “smoky southwesterly”.
This breeze is so consistently reliable, that locals often keep time by it and is one of many reasons, along with a stunningly pretty harbor and coastline, why Newport is considered to be the sailing capital of the world. Afternoon sails in Newport are fantastic!
Sit back and relax or get involved as we sail you through Newport Harbor, into Narragansett Bay, and along the shoreline of Newport’s picturesque Ocean Drive.
You’ll get great views of the Pell Bridge, Fort Adams, the largest coastal fortification in North America, Clingstone, “the house on a rock” and Hammersmith Farm, the former Summer Whitehouse of President Kennedy. Vintage America’s Cup boats, lighthouses, superyachts, and weekly races are common sights.
Guests are welcome to help raise sail, take the wheel and sail or relax and enjoy the sights. No sailing experience is required. Since we sail in protected waters, the sailing is very smooth. Queasiness, even for our most apprehensive guests, is never an issue!
Our captains and crew know the history of the sights and will point out the highlights with light, informal commentary. No two trips are exactly alike since the wind and tide vary daily and we try to sail as much as possible.
Whether you’ve never set foot on a sailboat, or are an old salt, Sightsailing’s afternoon cruises in Newport are legendary, enjoyable and fun for all! See Newport. Sail Newport.
We strongly recommend Booking Online in advance. Sails regularly sell out.
