If you're looking for a more adventerous, lively sailing experience, yet still want to be comfortable sail on Sightsailer! Sightsailer is a very fun boat to sail on and is great boat for a sail of Newport Harbor and Narragansett Bay.
Compared to Aquidneck, Sightsailer is much lower to the water, which gives a greater sensation of sailing and more of a race boat style sailing experience. When it’s windy, Sightsailer will heel (lean) over more than Aquidneck and many find this quite exciting! Non-sailors should not be alarmed: the sail is always very smooth. If Aquidneck is a Cadillac, Sightsailer is a two seat convertible sports car. Both are fun, but in different ways.
Sightsailer has a large, fully cushioned cockpit complete with back and footrests and two swiveling stern seats to take in the action. When the wind is light to moderate in strength, guests may also sit up on deck. Sightsailer sails with a maximum of 13 guests.
On a typical sail, we cruise through Newport Harbor, into Narragansett Bay and along the shoreline of Newport’s Ocean Drive. The scenery is spectacular and the sailing is usually first rate. Sights include Goat Island, Fort Adams, Hammersmith Farm and Clingstone an iconic home perched on a rocky outcropping.
Since Sightsailer is very nimble you might also sail into Brenton’s Cove and sail closer to some of the seaside estates then you do on Aquidneck. No two sails are exactly alike since the wind and tide vary daily. Guests are able to take the wheel and sail or sit back and relax. Although this is not a sailing tour where we talk constantly through a microphone, our captains and crew all know the history of the harbor and bay and will happily answer any of your questions about the sights.
